There are times in your life when you just want to keep yourself busy. You say yes to every project, yes to every opportunity. You stop thinking “am I good enough for that?” or “what am I going to do?”. You just try and give the best you can. Those times are great times to try new things, things that you always wanted to try but you were too afraid to, too insecure to begin. Because the result doesn’t matter, it’s the “doing” that does. Now you are fearless, and hungry for new experiences. And that is how I feel lately.
So when Gini, a soon-to-be-model in Berlin, contacted me to do a collaboration. I said YES. Doing more portraits. Shooting more editorial pictures. Trying new things. Exactly what I need, exactly what I want.
On a sunny afternoon we met in Gleisdreieck Park, we walked to the little ramps under the bridge where I trained with my roller-derby teammates once. At first I didn’t know what to do. I had no plan! So I just started to take pictures, to try different angles. Then, after a couple of pictures, the story poped up in my mind. I started to shoot and direct her, like if she was one of those cool teens who are hanging around skates park, who are too cool for you, but you desperatly want to be friends with. The light was amazing, like in a church, Gini gave me exactly the right expression and I was able to try unusual angles (at least for me). The result push me to do more, to try more, to dare more. So expect to see more new things here!
